End-of-Season Awards | 2014

Well, it was another exciting year for the Kent Ramblas, welcoming some new faces to the fold, continuing the excellence in the tea arena and seeing the first tranche of players reach their 50th caps.

To mark the end of the fifth year (who saw that coming?), here’s the rundown of our end-of-season commendations and shout outs.

PLAYERS’ PLAYER: Geoff Parrett

That’s a Ramblas first, ladies and gents, with the same player snaffling both awards. The one. The only. An original. Geoff Parrett was a constant threat with the bat, sublimely consistent with the ball and deadly at the dinner table. A true all-rounder, if ever there was one.

Stepping into the fray, often last minute, the sterling work in the kitchen of Mrs C was roundly applauded and appreciated by the Ramblas – and any visitors. Commendable work at catering for the increasingly diverse needs of the home side also must be acknowledged.

Now, we also do a number of other awards to shine a light on a few of the other highlights of our season. These were voted by those who played at least four games during the season.

AD was a revelation (to those of us that didn’t know him, at least), proving a constant thorn in the side of any opening partnership on the way to seven wickets at an economy rate of 3.6. A knock of 30 towards the end of the year underlined his threat with the bat, too.

MOMENT OF THE YEAR: Geoff Parrett stacking it as he bowled his first delivery of the season

You just can’t keep this man out of the limelight and Geoff’s memorable introduction to the season set the tone for a year in which he was never far from the action.

CATCH OF THE YEAR: Mark Loughlin vs Herne

The athleticism of our premier fast bowler never ceases to amaze and this one-handed, diving effort to help us onto victory down in Herne was just another example of that.

INNINGS OF THE YEAR: Drew Smith 48* vs Herne

Having been a reliable ringer last year, Drew proved himself a valuable full-time addition to the squad with this vital knock to carry us to a first win against Herne.

PARTNERSHIP OF THE YEAR: Drew Smith and Mark Loughlin vs Herne

As mentioned above, this match saw us claim bragging rights over Herne for the first time, due in no small part to the 49-run partnership between Drew and Mark.

MATCH OF THE YEAR: vs Ex-Blues (a)

Finally getting to complete a game against our League-playing landlords, and with a few regulars missing, the 13-run defeat had all manner of drama. Read about it in our match report, why don’t you?
